Hello Beads is the UK’s largest e-commerce store for beads, findings, kits and bits to be used in beading and jewellery-making. Its five-year-old e-commerce system was falling behind in terms of functionality, with the company having to manually process card payments over the phone. Hello Beads asked Perceptant 101 to upgrade its online store to the latest versions of Joomla and Virtuemart, install online card payment processing and make the site easier to use.

Perceptant 101 got to work on the complex task of upgrading, investigating and reconfiguring the five-year-old Joomla content management system and Virtuemart e-commerce system. To make payments easier, it installed the Cardsave online card payment plug-in before setting up and styling the new payment gateway. Various new features were implemented within Virtuemart, making it quicker and easier for users to choose their products, get quantity discounts and place their orders.

Hello Beads is now using the latest stable releases of the Joomla and Virtuemart systems. With an e-commerce site that runs faster, is easier to use and allows online card payments, the company now offers a far more streamlined user experience to online shoppers.

Perceptant101 Rebuilds Popular WordPress Website

Model Ruth Crilly’s well-known website A Model Recommends is a popular place for fashion and beauty tips. But when the WordPress site was hacked it displayed far from model behaviour and started redirecting people to virus-ridden websites. Ruth called in Perceptant 101 to rebuild it.

A thorough investigation of the site determined how much damage the hacker had done and what content could be saved. Perceptant 101 then moved the hosting of the site to its own dedicated servers and hardened the server configuration so it would be more resilient to hacking attempts. A robust backup system was also established, to make sure content couldn’t be lost in the future.

Perceptant 101 then reinstalled the WordPress content management system and upgraded it to the latest version. A thorough cleansing removed all malicious code from the content files before the freshly scrubbed WordPress theme was reinstalled and all the archive content imported.

Restored to its former beauty, the rebuilt website is now functioning with a grace worthy of the catwalk. And beneath its stylish exterior it’s also a model of resilience against future attacks.

Academies Enterprise Trust (AET) helps primary and secondary-level academy staff to ensure their establishments provide top-class education. It called in Perceptant 101 to improve the performance of its Group Service Comms portal, which provides resources and joined-up working opportunities for school and college staff. With every page taking 30 seconds to load, it was clear that the portal ‘must try harder’.

Perceptant 101 investigated the problem before reconfiguring the portal’s Apache and Linux servers. AET’s Drupal content management system was upgraded to version 6.5, with optimised configuration to make sure it was working as efficiently as it could. Then, after a thorough check for plugin conflicts and upgrades to the latest plugin versions, the portal was ready to perform.

AET has seen huge improvements in portal performance since the project. The portal’s pages now load in just 2-3 seconds, making it an A+ resource for academy staff.

Wickersley Theatre Company Showcases New Website

Fame Services UK, is a company focused on providing quality emergency services to UK households, including Plumbing, Glazing, Electrical and Locksmiths.

Recent expansion has seen the company begin to provide targeted geographical areas with specific services. This includes emergency plumbing services across Sheffield in South Yorkshire.
